Arthur ashe garden expansion project

The Arthur Ashe Community garden previously Arlington Community Garden, was conceived by a group of local residents who desired to create productive green space in their neighborhood. In September City Farm Share began working with community members to expand the garden, modify the compost program, install drip irrigation, secure reliable access to water for irrigation, install 18 new garden beds and improve garden infrastructure. CFS will also Create a propagation space and additional native pollinator plants.

We are sincerely grateful to the many individual volunteers and donors who responded to our fundraising campaign and made this community garden expansion project happen!

Community seedling distribution program

City Farm Share sows seeds in late Winter and then packs those seedlings for distribution to community, school gardens and Hudson county residents the following Spring. CFS will accept seedling requests for Special Orders. Requests should be placed by December 31st, as seedlings will be grown to order.

Community Composting program

City Farm Share is divert nutrient rich “waste” from local landfill. Select food waste and livestock manure that would otherwise create greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane are collected from our community partners and processed into nutrient rich compost. We utilize aerobic composting and vermi-composting. Compost is batch tested to ensure that the compost does not have contaminants such as pesticides, or heavy metals.

We're trying to build local partnerships in Jersey City, and we need your help.  If you represent a local food generator or community garden and would like to participate in community composting, we'd love to hear from you!
